Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and you’ll  improve your one-on-one dealings with others.

Don’t worry! Everyone in a Toastmasters club was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill. T

Jerry Hornyak and Valerie Speaks founded our club in Santa Ana in 1992, and John Angiolillo and Gim Chin served as SpeakEZ’s club mentors. A few years later we moved to Boeing Huntington Beach and our club continued growing. Our membership consists of Boeing employees (past and present) and non-Boeing folks from various industries. We welcome anyone who has the desire to improve and grow in their communication and leadership skills. We are a supportive group of people that are here not only for ourselves but to reach out and help others achieve communication and leadership success in their professional and personal goals.
Here's what a new member, Ruth, who just joined, had to say about our club: "You guys have a great club and I'm looking forward to Toastmastering with you all. I've been particularly impressed with the organization and follow up you have provided. Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know you all better."

Club Mission

Our club mission is in line with the Toastmasters mission from Toastmasters International Headquarters: “The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth”. Source: TI WHQ (Toastmasters International Headquarters). We are here to reach out to anyone who has the desire or passion to grow in their communication and leadership skills.

The following are some characteristics unique to our Toastmasters club: Boeing Training Credits

If you are a Boeing employee, your participation in Toastmasters counts towards your Boeing Training Credits. You will receive a one hour training credit for every meeting you attend.
Unique Club Traditions And Practices
1) The Harv Award
The Harv Award is our rotating trophy for the best table topics speaker. Each week, club members vote on who they judge as best table topic speaker, and the winner gets to display the coveted Harv Award in his/her home/office/car until the next meeting. Harv Popick was a talented club 8771 Toastmaster who is now retired from Boeing and enjoys a second career as a thespian. As you can guess, he was a master of table topics.

What is table topics you ask? Table topics is a session focused on improving our impromptu speaking by having a table topics "master" ask a question and randomly choose you to come up and answer the question in 1-2 minutes! Fun! You do this all the time with your friends and coworkers but here we practice this every week so we can do a better job of it in real life.

2) Listening Master

The function of Timer and Ah Counter are common to all Toastmaster clubs. However there are other roles that are unique to only some clubs. For instance, some clubs have a Quote Master or a Joke Master. Our club wants to focus on active listening skills. It is the Listening Master's duties to take notes on what is said throughout a meeting and to ask questions of members improve their listening attention and comprehension.

3) Ah Bank
Another unique practice of the club is that we charge our members 5 cents (up to $ .50) for each speaking infraction uttered during a meeting. An infraction includes all filler words (ums, uhs, ahs, you knows, like, etc. ). The “ah” bank serves a dual purpose to keep our members on their toes; all the money collected go toward club celebrations and supplies. Guests are exempt from paying the “ah” fee.
